Pets on the Go

Pet‐friendly restaurants, stores, cafes, and work places are on the rise – which means more pets are commuting or traveling with their pet parents every day. With our four‐legged friends out and about more often, it's important to ensure they are properly secured and protected when traveling. No matter how you move, here are some tips for traveling via public and private transportation with your pet.
Bus - Your pet should be in a bag, carrier, or on a leash at all times when on a bus. Buses make frequent stops and the last thing any pet parent wants is for their anxious pet to hop off at the wrong stop. It's also important, especially with bigger dogs, to keep them close to you so they can relax, you can keep a close eye on them and they don't make other passengers anxious.
Train and Subway- Just like when you're on a bus, it's imperative for you, your pet, and other passengers' safety that your pet remains in a carrier or bag or is leashed while on a train and in the train station. Train stations can be extremely busy, and all the loud noises might cause your pet some distress. Keeping your pet close to your body will help them feel more secure and will minimize stress and flight risk.
Car - Whether you're driving or just a passenger, it's important to keep your pet properly secured in the back seat in a carrier, hammock, car seat, or with a pet seatbelt. Not only can pets hurt themselves roaming around in the backseat but they can become a major distraction to the driver.
Plane - Many airlines will allow you to bring your cat or small dog in the cabin for an additional fee, however, you should call the airline well in advance as there are limits to the number of animals allowed in the cabin. Once you've confirmed your pet can fly with you, take the time to read your specific airline's pet rules. If your pup is traveling with you, make sure they meet the size requirements. When you arrive at the airport, make sure your pet does their business before boarding, especially if you're on a longer flight. While on the plane, you should also be sure to keep your pet comfortable, well-hydrated, fed, and in a secure crate. If you're traveling internationally, be sure to have your pets microchipped with an ISO microchip. Luckily, HomeAgain microchips are ISO microchips and can be recognized by scanners worldwide. So if your pet loses its way while traveling, you have the security of knowing HomeAgain can help bring your pet home safely.
Taxi or Ride Share Service - Similar to when you drive in a private car, you need to keep your pet calm and secure while riding in a taxi or ride-sharing service. You should also disclose that you will be traveling with an animal and make sure the driver is okay with it.
If your pet takes transportation with you – even if it's only once in a while – make sure they are microchipped and registered with HomeAgain. In busy and hectic public areas like train stations and airports, or in the destination you're traveling to, it's easy for pets to slip away. A HomeAgain membership can help reunite you, and if your pet is found 500 or more miles away from home, HomeAgain will help cover their return travel costs.
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow
Bridge. When an animal who has been especially close to
someone here dies, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food,
water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to
health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made
whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our
dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy
and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. With
bright eyes intent and with eager body beginning to
quiver your precious friend begins to run from the group,
flying over green grass, on legs running faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special
friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion,
never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon
your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so
long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Gone from our side, but forever in our heart,
waiting on the other side for the ones they love.
